Biography

Ross Updegraff received his Doctor of Music degree in organ performance from Northwestern University, where he was a student of Douglas Cleveland.

A native of western Pennsylvania, Ross began his organ studies at the age of six and received a Bachelor of Music degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Music degree from Brigham Young University.

As organist and choir director at the Glencoe Union Church, Ross directs two vocal choirs and two handbell choirs. Ross frequently composes anthems and solos works for his choirs and section leaders as well as organ compositions.

Ross served as a Millar Chapel Organ Scholar at Northwestern and is the recipient of Northwestern's William Harrison Barnes Scholarship Fund and the Frederick Swann Scholarship. In 2002, he received the first Annual Organ Award, established by the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Evanston, IL.

In addition to being a finalist and third place winner in the Rodland Memorial Scholarship Competition, he is a past winner of the American Guild of Organist's Pittsburgh Chapter Young Artists Competition and has competed regionally. As a recitalist, he has performed in several states and in Europe.

Ross enjoys singing and has sung with the Chicago Master Singers and Chicago Master Singers Chorale as well as several university choirs and is active in the American Choral Directors Association, the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers and the American Guild of Organists.
