Combination Action
Replacement Project
|
As organist at the Glencoe Union Church, Ross plays
Casavant's Opus 3465, installed in 1980. Berghaus Pipe Organ Builders,
located in Bellwood, IL, recently replaced our original combination action system
with a new 120 level Peterson digital system.
With rapid advances in digital technology, the transformation is akin to moving
from a mid-1970s typewriter to a modern computer. The new system allows for much
more flexibility in registering the organ and replaces the old system, which was
becoming increasingly unreliable.
The following photos show the steps in the project.

The project included:
- Removing the existing mechanical combination action
- Removing the front face of the console, including the stops
- Removing the two keyboard, or manuals
- Transporting the keyboards and front front piece to the organ workshop
- Attaching the new digital panels to the stops and keyboard
- Bringing everything back and reassembling it inside the console
|
The entire project was complete in one week, so the organ was
able to be back in use by the following Sunday.
